THE TREE

            It began as a seed
            Then a fragile plant;
            Vying with the hardy weed
            For a place in the earth.

            Now it's robust and strong
            Magnificent with its regal crown;
            Branches outspread in gratitude
            For the rain and sunshine from the Lord.

           At sunrise it greets the sun
            That gives warmth to its sinewy arms;
            And all day long it plays
            With the tireless breeze!
            Little children love to frolic
            Under its refreshing shade;
            While above the birds twitter
            Flitting joyously here and there.

            If a tree can give thanks to God
            For its existence with a grateful nod;
            Can't we love a tree
            That sustains us with the breath of life?
