What’s this that we have to work, and then confer,
Confer, and then work?
What’s that we have to say this, say that, this and that?
Work, work, work, confer, confer, discuss, discuss,
Whiting, singing, reading, thinking, seeing, hearing,
All busy on some business.
Business? On what? Strengthening?
Or, are we both strong and weak?
Thereby possessing imperfections?
Let’s pool all our imperfections
To make something perfect.
Or, to perfect some imperfections,
Work-conference, to know more,
Only to know that we don’t know,
For what’s true today may be false tomorrow,
O knowledge variable!
Is it not then that we should know that we know?
He’s a fool who knows not he knows not,
O knowledge infinite!
Work-conference, speak, speak, speak,
Understand the child, don’t use a stick,
But, oh, time for a break!
Work-conference, how enjoyable it
is!
And yet how boring!
Work-conference, how boring it
is!
And yet how enjoyable!
Work-conference, on leadership,
On the leader, to lead!
Nothing for the follower?
O democracy, how sweet is you
name!
Yet how bitter is your spirit!
Working, conferring, conferring,
working,
Day in and day out, around the
clock,
Re-examining, re-evaluating,
rededicating,
Improving ourselves to improve
thr child
